Chery International expands its UK presence alongside existing brands.

Chery International plans to introduce its iCaur lineup to British motorists, expanding its UK presence alongside existing brands like Omoda, Jaecoo, Chery, and Lepas. Marketed as an “adventure” division, iCaur specializes in rugged SUVs and operates in several right-hand-drive regions outside China. The company has begun identifying UK dealerships to establish a distribution network ahead of a launch targeted for early next year, following retailer feedback sessions on upcoming models.

Brand Identity and Market Strategy

The iCaur name replaces “iCar” in international markets to prevent trademark conflicts with Apple Inc. Chery has not disclosed which specific iCaur vehicles will debut in the UK, nor confirmed precise launch dates or projected sales figures. A company representative stated Chery systematically assesses opportunities to expand its brand portfolio into new territories, including evaluating iCaur’s potential through its UK-based research and development facilities.

Model Range and Technical Details

iCaur currently offers three off-road SUV models in China: the compact V23, mid-size V25, and full-size V27—all available as either pure electric or range-extended hybrid vehicles. The V23, which measures 4.2 meters in length, comes with two battery options: a 60kWh unit paired with rear-wheel drive or an 81kWh battery combined with four-wheel drive, achieving up to 315 miles per charge in select markets. The V25 combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor and 34kWh battery, while the V27 shares the same hybrid powertrain but delivers approximately 450 horsepower. Industry reports suggest the V27’s platform could underpin Ineos’s upcoming electrified Fusilier, positioned below its existing diesel-powered Grenadier.

iCaur has already established operations in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia. Its first European entry will occur this autumn in Austria, distributed by Colmobil, an Israeli-owned automotive importer. A Colmobil representative said Austria will serve as the first European market and launchpad for further expansion, with market entries in the Czech Republic, Spain, the UK, and Germany planned subsequently.

Chery International can confirm that iCaur is currently undergoing an advanced review for potential entry into the UK market. Chery has a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover, which includes the Freelander; JLR has previously said it won’t stop Chery from selling Freelander vehicles in the UK.
