Mazda confirmed that the full redesign of its CX-30 crossover will not arrive until the fiscal year 2030, which ends in March 2031. The model, which first appeared in 2019, had been scheduled for a near-term refresh, but the schedule has now been shifted.

Chief executive Masahiro Moro explained that the next generation is planned for the 2030 window, meaning the current platform could remain in production for roughly twelve years without a complete overhaul. He noted that extending the life of the existing architecture helps the brand manage development costs.

That strategy echoes the cost-saving steps the company applied to the recent CX-5 update, where it prolonged the existing chassis before launching a clean-sheet design. The move indicates a broader effort to maximize a platform’s lifespan while facing financial pressure.

The postponement is linked to rising production costs, volatile global markets, higher raw-material prices, and a sharp increase in U.S. import tariffs on Japanese-built vehicles—from 2.5% to 15%. Because Mazda lacks a large manufacturing base in the United States, the tariff jump creates a particularly heavy burden.

To cope with the situation, the automaker plans aggressive efficiency measures aimed at roughly 200 billion yen, or about $1.3 billion, in savings over the coming years. It will continue periodic facelifts and price adjustments in both Japan and the United States while keeping the current platform in place.
