MDC USA’s XT9 Off-Grid Extreme Edition overland trailer offers a compact way to reach remote areas without requiring a heavy-duty tow vehicle.

The trailer’s closed height matches a Toyota 4Runner at 93 inches, while its width and length remain 14 inches shorter and 13 inches wider than the SUV. This size allows garage storage while packing huge capability and versatility.

Instead of a traditional beam axle, the XT9 uses an independent trailing-arm suspension called X-Track. Coil springs and dual Tough Trax HD shocks on each side smooth out rough terrain. The system rides on MDC’s Mega Hub, featuring 12-inch electromagnetic brake drums, 14-mm wheel studs, and Timken bearings.

The trailer combines aluminum and galvanized steel in its construction. Aluminum forms the frame and body panels, while galvanized steel reinforces critical chassis parts for corrosion resistance. This design keeps weight low while maintaining strength. A Renogy Rego 12-volt, 400-amp-hour lithium iron phosphate battery powers the electrical system, supported by three 175-watt solar panels. The setup can sustain lights, a fridge, and small appliances for days without external power.

A wireless rearview camera helps drivers handle tight spaces. The seven-inch screen mounts inside the tow vehicle, providing a clear view behind the trailer. Such features reduce stress on narrow forest roads.

Rather than introducing radical changes, MDC improved existing overland trailer elements. The XT9 avoids excess size, concentrating on durability, capable suspension, and off-grid power. This approach may appeal to those who value simplicity and accessibility. Smaller trailers like this one can access locations larger rigs cannot.

Pricing and availability remain unannounced, though the trailer is set to launch later this year. Early specifications suggest it could suit adventurers seeking a lightweight, off-road-ready option. Real-world performance will determine its success, but initial details indicate a well-rounded compact setup.

Mobility takes priority over space in the XT9’s design. It targets those who prefer agility over extra room. If a compact, off-road-ready trailer interests you, this model may be worth tracking. However, it won’t accommodate extensive gear or large groups.

For those considering a more luxurious mobile experience, overland vehicles with premium amenities exist, though they often demand larger tow capacity.
