Mercedes-AMG has confirmed that a new AMG GT Black Series is in development, which will also serve as a homologation special for a future GT3 race car. The upcoming model is based on last year’s AMG GT Track Sport concept, which featured a V8 powertrain and a focus on weight reduction and downforce.
The new AMG GT Black Series will sit at the top of the food chain, just like previous Black Series models. The last GT Black Series produced 720 horsepower and held the Nürburgring’s production car record with a 6:48 lap, before being dethroned by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with a Manthey Performance Kit.
Development and Expectations
AMG boss Michael Schiebe has high expectations for the new car, describing it as the most extreme Black Series ever. Schiebe said, “At AMG, we develop vehicles to exceed expectations, and that is exactly what the future Black Series and the new GT3 will do.”
Development is already underway, with Track Sport prototypes undergoing testing at several European circuits, including Bilster Berg, Portimão, and Monteblanco. Testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife is also underway, which could lead to another headline-grabbing performance benchmark.
The new car will need to produce more than the 600-horsepower AMG GT 63 Pro. A hybrid setup is possible, but it’s more likely that AMG will stick with a worked-over version of its twin-turbo V8, which will also serve as the base for the next GT3 rig.

Specifications and Features
A publicly available spec sheet for the new Black Series does not exist yet. A hybrid setup is possible, but it’s more likely that AMG will stick with a worked-over version of its twin-turbo V8.
GT3 homologation rules allow for engine swaps, as long as it’s from the same manufacturer and the car’s original engine bay doesn’t need to be modified. The current AMG GT3 uses a 6.3L V8, instead of the road car’s 4L twin-turbo V8. The FIA will specify rollbars, safety hardware, and a spec ECU and software parameters.
The road car will likely feature an aero package similar to the race cars, with a large diffuser and swan neck rear wing. AMG has also hinted at a new visual identity, with red featuring prominently on the GT3 race car, and yellow and green accents distinguishing the Black Series road model.
