The Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept is an all-wheel-drive electric cruiser that embodies open-air fun. This “beach adventurer” electric vehicle is designed for individuals who enjoy surf, sand, and the simplicity of an open-top experience.
Based on the production version of the recently launched, front-motor Renault 4 E-Tech EV, the JP4x4 concept has been modified into a two-door arrangement. It features a more compact package with major revisions to the SUV’s overall shape.
The JP4x4 concept boasts unique details that lend it a beach bum vibe, including wild, flap half doors that don’t connect to its reengineered B-pillar. The vehicle also has a distinct lack of glass, which has been removed from the roof, doors, and rear cargo area.
A notable feature of the JP4x4 concept is the X-brace on the roof, perfectly sized to hold a typical surfboard. The lack of glass also allows easy access to the rear cargo area, which is designed to stow a pair of skateboards.

The production Renault 4’s liftgate has been replaced by a tailgate, making it easier to load and unload heavier or bulkier cargo like beach chairs or coolers. The JP4x4 Concept’s exterior is finished in Emerald Green paint, complemented by a very orange interior.
The seats recall the “Egyptian mummy” design from 1970s Renault models, and the dashboard adds a grab handle for the passenger if things get too bumpy. The vehicle’s dual-motor AWD layout and raised ride height of just under 5/8 inch should handle bumps with ease.
Performance and Design
The unique JP4 wheels match the production Renault 4’s 18-inch diameter, but they, along with the 225/55R18 Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Plus tires, add just shy of 3/8 inch to the track width at each end. The E-Tech is rated at 150 horsepower for the front-drive version, so doubling that would enable tackling even the tallest dunes and rip around in deep sand.
The JP4x4 Concept draws from retro flavor, incorporating elements from the 1969 Plein Air and 1981 JP4 models. The name and design are inspired by these classic open-air leisure vehicles, with the JP4’s roll cage appearing to be a direct inspiration for the roof conversion.
