Jaecoo Australia is overhauling its J7 medium SUV range this month, trimming the petrol line-up, reducing prices across key variants, and introducing an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid flagship for the first time.
New model grades and pricing
The MY27 update pares the J7 back to four variants across three grades – Ridge, Track, and Summit – with the previous Core and front-wheel drive petrol Track variants disappearing from the range. In their place, Jaecoo is placing greater emphasis on its SHS-P (Super Hybrid System, Plug-in Hybrid) drivetrain, which will account for three of the four MY27 variants. This strategic shift is designed to counter the growing competition in the Australian market from other Chinese-sourced medium SUVs.
The revised range opens at $39,990 driveaway for both the carry-over petrol-powered Ridge AWD and the entry-level Track SHS-P, while the Summit SHS-P 2WD is priced at $44,990 d/a and a new Summit SHS-P AWD tops the range at $47,990 d/a. Relative to the outgoing regular driveaway pricing reported previously by GoAuto, the Ridge AWD drops $3000 from $42,990, the Track SHS-P falls $4000 from $43,990, and the Summit SHS-P 2WD is $3000 cheaper than before.
The outgoing regular pricing for the initial launch included Core and Track front-wheel drive petrol grades from $34,990 and $37,990 driveaway respectively, with the Ridge AWD at $42,990 and a single Summit SHS plug-in hybrid at $47,990. The SHS Track was subsequently added in November 2025 at $43,990 driveaway, broadening the plug-in hybrid offering below the Summit. This move effectively makes some of the promotional pricing applied to the J7 during 2026 permanent, while sharpening the model’s position against a rapidly expanding field of Chinese-sourced medium SUVs and plug-in hybrids.

For MY27, the Ridge becomes the sole conventional petrol J7 and retains its turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 137kW and 275Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a full-size spare wheel, perforated synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a 14.8-inch portrait infotainment display, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, head-up display, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, 50W wireless phone charging, and an eight-speaker Sony audio system.
The Track SHS-P becomes the new entry point to Jaecoo’s plug-in hybrid range at the same $39,990 driveaway price as the Ridge AWD. It brings 19-inch aero-style alloy wheels, retractable door handles, LED lighting, a 13.2-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice control, a six-speaker audio system, and eight airbags. The Summit SHS-P upgrades to synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, head-up display, 14.8-inch infotainment screen, Sony audio, panoramic roof, 360-degree camera, and a powered tailgate.
Specs for the plug-in hybrid variants
Both front-drive SHS-P grades pair a 105kW/215Nm turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 150kW/310Nm electric motor, with Jaecoo now quoting combined outputs of 205kW and 365Nm. The new Summit AWD adds a separate 113kW/210Nm rear electric motor, lifting combined system output to 260kW and 490Nm while providing electrically driven all-wheel drive. An 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate battery is fitted across the SHS-P range, supporting DC charging at up to 40kW and a claimed 30-to-80 per cent recharge time of around 20 minutes.
Jaecoo quotes electric-only driving range of between 80km for the 2WD variants and 100km for the AWD, with combined petrol and electric range extending to as much as 1200km. The revised outputs and electric range figures mark an evolution from specifications quoted for the original J7 SHS, which launched with a claimed 90km WLTP electric range and the same basic 1.5-litre petrol/electric drivetrain architecture.
Warranty and availability
All variants continue with Jaecoo’s suite of driver-assistance (ADAS) technology, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency braking. The J7 is backed by an eight-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, eight-year capped-price servicing program, an eight-year/unlimited-kilometre high-voltage battery warranty, and up to eight years of roadside assistance. Jaecoo’s warranty and ownership proposition has been a central part of the brand’s Australian strategy since launch, subsequently complemented by its Future Price Promise guaranteed-value program for J7 and J8 buyers. The MY27 Ridge AWD and Summit SHS-P variants will reach Australian dealerships during September, with the value-focused Track SHS-P following in October.
